Andrew Smith is the Director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection at the Federal Trade Commission. Previously Andrew was a Partner at the Covington & Burling law firm in Washington, DC, where he cochaired the Consumer Financial Services Practice Group. Mr. Smith advised banks, finance companies, credit bureaus and financial technology providers regarding regulatory compliance, as well as law enforcement, litigation and transactional matters. Mr. Smith has served in senior policy-making and supervisory positions at the Federal Trade Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission. He is currently the Chair of the American Bar Association’s Consumer Financial Services Committee, and is recommended as a leading lawyer by Best Lawyers in America, Chambers, and Legal 500.
