Scott’s legal practice spans 30 years of representing financial institutions in all aspects of
consumer financial services, including FinTech, automobile finance, litigation and regulatory response,
and data privacy and cyber-security. Scott holds CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM, and CIPT certifications
from the International Association of Privacy Professionals and has been Severson & Werson’s
Data Protection Officer since 2017. Scott co-authors the California Continuing Education of
the Bar’s treatises on The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act(s), on the Telephone Consumer
Protection Act, and Thompson-Reuter’s Practical Law Series on the Song-Beverly Act.
In 2007, Scott created Severson & Werson’s Consumer Financial Services weblog, to
which Scott has posted over 3,000 case summaries for the financial services industry since
inception (https://www.severson.com/consumer-finance/). Scott is a frequent industry speaker
and author, having published more than 30 articles on consumer financial services topics in
scholarly publications such as the Conference on Consumer Finance Law Quarterly. Scott is
admitted to practice in California and Texas, before the federal courts in those states, and
before the United States Supreme Court.
