Scott’s legal practice spans 30 years of representing financial institutions in all aspects of
consumer financial services, including FinTech representation, automobile finance, litigation and
regulatory response, and data privacy and cyber-security. Scott holds CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM, and
CIPT certifications from the International Association of Privacy Professionals. Scott co-authors
the California Continuing Education of the Bar’s treatise on The Fair Debt Collection Practices
Act(s), is a former co-author on the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and Thompson-Reuter’s
Practical Law Series on the Song-Beverly Act. Scott is a frequent industry speaker and author, having
run a weblog summarizing over 3,000 consumer finance cases and having published more than 30 articles
on consumer financial services topics in scholarly publications such as the Conference on Consumer
Finance Law Quarterly. Scott is admitted to practice in California and Texas, before the
federal courts in those states, and before the United States Supreme Court.
