RICHARD E. GOTTLIEB is Chief Legal Officer and Executive Vice President of
Leap Theory, LLC, a Santa Monica-based fintech company with consumer lending,
financial analytics and direct marketing product lines.
Richard was previously a partner at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, and chair
of the firm’s national consumer financial practice. In his many
years in practice, Richard has counseled and defended financial institutions
on consumer finance matters, including in the defense of both individual and
putative class action suits alleging false or deceptive practices and statutory
consumer lending violations. A recognized leader in the field, Richard
has been Chambers-listed every year since inception of its peer rankings
of the top global consumer finance lawyers, and he is the senior editor
and co-author of the leading desk treatise on consumer lending laws,
The Consumer Financial Services Answer Book, which is published annually
by the Practising Law Institute. Mr. Gottlieb is a graduate of Georgetown
University Law Center (LL.M.), State University of New York at
Buffalo (J.D.), and Vanderbilt University (B.A.). He is a member of the
California, District of Columbia, Illinois, and New York bars.
