Francis Riley is co-chair of the Consumer Financial Services Litigation Practice at Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr. Trip's broad practice, which draws on nearly 25 years of experience, includes representations of clients in consumer financial services and other consumer facing services and products, such as real estate settlement services, retail and hospitality. He also represents companies in complex, high exposure single plaintiff and class action litigation.
Trip's consumer protection regulatory compliance work focuses on helping service and product companies comply with federal and state consumer protection laws, regulations and guidance, including those enforced by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Consumer Protection Divisions of State AG's offices. Trip also defends these clients in single plaintiff and class actions against claims of consumer protections law violations. These claims have included asserted violations of the FCRA, TCPA, FDCPA, RESPA, and TILA, along with state unfair, deceptive and abusive practices statutes and regulations. His representations of financial services clients encompass a wide variety of actions, including class actions that arise from complex commercial transactions and relationships, in state and federal courts throughout the United States and before arbitrators. He has also been involved in a variety of statutory and common law fraud, civil RICO, and civil conspiracy actions. Trip's work in the real estate settlement services industry includes defense in civil litigation/class actions, government investigations and enforcement actions, as well as regulatory/compliance counseling.
Trip is a thought leader in the consumer financial services industry, speaking regularly at industry conferences put on by RESPRO, October Research, the MBA, ALTA, State Land Title Associations, and title underwriters. Trip also co-leads the firm's blog, Consumer Finance Litigation Bulletin, that has been quoted in numerous articles, and has authored articles for industry publications such as the Conference on Consumer Finance Law Quarterly Report and InsideARM.
