Laura A. Johnson is a Deputy Assistant Director in the Office of Regulations at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. She focuses primarily on mortgage servicing and the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA). She joined the Bureau in 2013.
Prior her work at the Bureau, Ms. Johnson was in the Regulatory Services group at U.S. Bancorp in Washington D.C., where she handled consumer-oriented regulatory compliance issues involving mortgage servicing. Prior to that, she was a staff attorney and later Chief of Staff in the Division of Financial Practices at the Federal Trade Commission. She previously practiced law with the firm of K&L Gates in Washington, D.C., where she focused on financial services regulatory compliance counseling, particularly with respect to mortgage origination and advertising issues.
She received her B.A. (Government) from Centre College in Kentucky and her J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C.
