Laura A. Johnson is the SVP, Chief Servicing Regulatory Counsel at Freedom Mortgage.
Ms. Johnson previously was a Deputy Assistant Director in the Office of Regulations at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, where she oversaw numerous rulemakings and focused primarily on mortgage servicing and the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act. Prior to joining the Bureau, Ms. Johnson was in the Regulatory Services group at U.S. Bancorp in Washington D.C., where she handled regulatory compliance issues involving mortgage servicing. She previously was a staff attorney and later Chief of Staff in the Division of Financial Practices at the Federal Trade Commission. Prior to the FTC, Ms. Johnson practiced law with the firm of K&L Gates in Washington, D.C., where she focused on financial services regulatory compliance counseling, particularly with respect to mortgage origination and advertising issues.
Ms. Johnson received her B.A. (Government) from Centre College in Kentucky and her J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C.
