Joel Winston’s practice includes assisting lenders, automobile finance companies, credit card companies, debt collectors, consumer reporting agencies, and other financial institutions in developing and maintaining consumer credit programs, marketing campaigns, and privacy and data security compliance policies and procedures.

Joel joined Hudson Cook after a 35-year career in the Bureau of Consumer Protection of the Federal Trade Commission, where he served in a number of positions, including Director of the Divisions of Financial Practices and Privacy and Identity Protection, and Assistant Director in the Division of Advertising Practices. Joel has extensive legal experience in litigation, rulemaking, public policy development, and consumer and business education in the areas of financial services, privacy, data security, identity theft, and advertising. He was the recipient of the 2008 Presidential Rank Award of Meritorious Executive.

Joel received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Michigan.
